For the written exam, you will develop essential skills such as summary, analysis, interpretation, comment, and discussion. You will learn how to confidently work with complex texts, strengthen your analytical thinking, and express your ideas clearly and convincingly in academic English, including language awareness, stylistic devices, narrative techniques, and film analysis where relevant. For the oral exam, you will train presentation skills, spontaneous speaking, discussion techniques, and the ability to respond confidently and fluently in exam situations. A central part of the course is the Abitur focus topic “On the Move – Migration and Cross-Cultural Encounters”, including related short stories and the film Arrival. We explore key themes such as migration, cultural identity, modern slavery, exploitation, and civic courage, with particular attention to the cultural contexts of the United Kingdom and the United States.
